The Park Show

Started by: psharp17 (3)

Hello
Can anyone help with memories, or even facts!, about The Park Show. Hoping to include some information in an article for Past Forward.
Does anyone have a relative who worked on it? How long was it on? Was it free to enter? Was there a big celebrity opening? I remember the Heinz tent and the free tasters of tomato soup (or at least I think I remember that) and the marquees where the flower arranging etc were on show.
Any information gratefully received. Many thanks.

Hi.
I remember the Mesnes Park 'summer show' for many years since the late 50s. I was a kid but had a painting in there that received a certificate. This continued through my schooldays up to 1969... my art displayed and certificates awarded (I'd have rather have had a prize but nevermind). There was a fireworks display on the tennis courts I think on the last night.
I actually joined the parks department at Easter 1973 and perhaps it was the following year my Landscape section created an award winning garden in one of the tents. Although the park was normally free to peruse, the summer show had a fee to attend. I do wish it could be reintroduced.

I remember an event for workers in the Leisure Department of the Council. Film footage was shown of the Park show, so maybe you could approach the council and ask for access to the archives. They may have the footage, but I'm sure they would have photos and newspaper reports.
